William Holmes DAVIS Draft Card
US Marine Private First Class Davis was born June 5, 1925, in Dayton, Washington to parents Ed (Deke) and Heddie Davis.
Bill had to have foot surgery to be able to join the service. He saw considerable action on Indianapolis and was proud to serve his country. He had a premonition and told his father when he was on leave in June 1945 that he didn’t think he would survive the war. On that fateful night in July when Indianapolis was hit, Bill took the midnight watch up forward. The first of two torpedoes hit the forward section of the ship shortly after midnight.
