Donald Henry WALTERS, F1-Fireman First Class

WALTERS, Donald H

Fireman First Class Donald Henry Walters was married to Alma and had a daughter Charlene. He had gone aboard USS Indianapolis CA-35 on December 1, 1944. After Indy was damaged by a bomb that was dropped by a Kamikaze pilot at Okinawa on March 31, 1945, Donald traveled on the ship for its return to Mare Island, CA for repairs. While in Mare Island from mid-April 1945 to his ship's departure on July 16, 1945; Donald's wife and daughter were with him and living near Mare Island. It was during those last few weeks prior to his departure on his final cruise that Donald played music on his guitar for his family and friends. Music was a passion for him and he enjoyed sharing his talents!
