 ALVEY, Edward W Jr. |
Aerographer's Mate Second Class Edward W. Alvey was born on September 3, 1924 in Louisville, KY. He went aboard USS Indianapolis on September 1, 1944.
While USS Indianapolis was receiving overhaul and repair at Mare Island during the two months prior to its departure for its final voyage, it is believed that Aerographer's Mate Second Class Edward W. ALVEY married his sweetheart.
Indy survivor Vic Buckett is believed to have served as Best Man at Edward's marriage ceremony. Vic was a Yeoman Second Class and by the duties of his rating could have been called a "Man of Words". It is not surprising that Vic recalled that Edward was known as the "lone honeymooner" on the ship. As a good friend and fellow Second Class rated sailor, Vic often spoke of Edward.
